The best definition of Praise and worship music I found was from Integrity Music’s 2001 Annual Report:

“Praise and Worship music is a form of music in which the lyric is directed towards God and is not just about God. It is music that expresses what is in people’s hearts. It is normally parcipatory in that the audience sings along with the worship leader. The music styles vary but tend to be more contemporary and relevant to today’s musical expressions.”

With this definition, most Christian music could be classified as “praise and worship” music.
