Music Styles
Chalice sings a variety of styles of music.
This page is not meant to demean OR uplift any one form or style of music. Chalice likes to sing all styles, old AND new. The purpose of this page is to distinguish between styles specifically for requesting programs. The information provided here is my opinion and helps explain why I don’t like Chalice to be labeled either a “Southern Gospel” band or a “praise and worship” band, but a Christian band.
I do believe that all Christian music is sung about God and it can be sung directly to God. All Christian music expresses our attitudes about God. All Christian music is praise and it is also worship.
A few years ago we heard a musician, David Payton, that took the words to “Amazing Grace” and sing it to the tunes of many popular secular songs from different years, genre, and styles. His whole purpose in doing this was to prove that it isn’t the style of music but the words.
The Bible in Ephesians 5:19 specifically calls us to “sings psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.” And to “make music in our hearts to the Lord.” Remember, it’s not so much the style of music that we sing, but the heartfelt response of the person singing.
We sing:
If requested and at all possible, Chalice will even learn songs that are requested by the church or sponsoring organization. At least a few weeks is required for most songs, longer for others.
