Morning Service at 10:00 AM Picnic to follow morning service
90°, very humid, no air conditioning in the church!
Morning service was a little packed with activities as this was the Sunday following their VBS and the kids sang a few of their VBS songs. This left Chalice only about 20 minutes to share. We abbreviated our introductions so we could sing an extra song but even then we were only able to sing 4 songs. The pastor invited Chalice to sing the closing song so we could squeeze in another. We invited the congregation to sing along with “Victory in Jesus” to close.
Several people came up and said that they had never heard “When God Ran” before and the song really touched them.
After the service the church had a picnic and had invited Chalice to sing a few more songs. Emily joined in with singing for this set. We decided to set up all of the equipment again in order to project our sound better. While the hamburgers and hot dogs were cooking we sang a few songs and then after eating we sang another set. While everyone ate, we played our Fill My Cup, Volume 2 CD.
To start the set we sang “When God Ran” again by popular request.
At one point Emily wanted to sing “Dive” but I thought it was a little contemporary for a Presbyterian church that liked the Gaither’s and traditional hymns. But I gave in to Emily and we sang the song. Then someone shouted out from the crowd, “do you have anything more contemporary than that?” So we gave them “Shackles” and I have to admit that they loved both songs!
After we had sweated enough and sang about as much as we could without melting, we concluded the second session. Everyone begged the pastor to invite us back.
