Presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Song, Word and Testimony

For the Fourth of July holiday we cooked on the grill. Apparently I am finally getting better at it since no police were called and I didn’t have to throw any charred hamburgers away. After dealing with the kids and the fireworks, I was trying to relax while trying to play some stupid game on the computer that my daughter-in-law, Mandi, showed me. As I was playing (quite poorly I might add) some of the folks here were watching me and the pressure was on. I could feel each eye on me as I was trying to find the best way to look thru my glasses (they’re bifocals) to get the best focus. The more I thought about everybody watching, the worse I got.

I realized that in our spiritual lives we struggle to focus on the “game” at hand and sometimes feel the eyes of others watching us. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing because they can be eyes of prayer helping us to press thru our experience. As we try to focus our eyes should look more and more to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith to help us “focus” on what He wants us to do rather that strive in our own humanity.

When I think how hard I was trying to look good for the people watching while I was playing, I only got worse. Whether it was my glasses or my lack of skill in this game, it wasn’t long till the game was over. Our lives fly by as we look to our circumstances rather than the solution, trusting in Jesus. I may never be any good at the game, but I hope to continue to try to look more and more to Jesus in my “game” of life so that some day it won’t be looking thru a glass dimly, but see all that God has and has promised for me and my family as well as the ministry.
